Foursquare recently launched Local Updates. What does that mean for your business? It now allows businesses an opportunity to talk to loyal customers who check in directly through Foursquare.
Local Updates are status messages/posts that appear in a Foursquare user’s activity feed (think Facebook Business Pages). The updates can include a new deal, special or promotion, up to three pictures, and a text message from a merchant. While this has implications for restaurants and retail stores, it’s a big opportunity for other companies that have been looking to leverage location-based social media but weren’t sure how to capitalize on their Foursquare presence. They are only seen by current customers who have checked in to the store multiple times and are in its vicinity (that means you will only see deals, specials, promos, etc from local businesses).
Businesses that haven’t yet claimed their listing on Foursquare should do so right away. Foursquare has certainly stepped up it’s geolocation marketing game becoming more business friendly. Below is a photo of what a the new Foursquare post can look like.
